Our History

We want to share our story as ALCE Art and Health, which emerged in May 2004, as an initiative of women in their search for healing paths through art and health.

In the first and second years it was a beautiful time, where we organized ourselves as a group and met monthly or bimonthly to enjoy meditation, music, pictorial art and the various paths of alternative healing such as Reiki, as well as the registration of the experience lived in each encounter from the perspective of each one.

In the third year we planned the exhibition of "La Tulpa" in the Living Arts Gallery in the city of Mississauga. (See photographs and memories of the exhibition). It was a year in which we made alliances with other organizations and started to build networks of mutual support for the benefit of the multicultural community.

In the fourth year we started to organize the website and we planned and implemented the "New Dimensions for Older Adults of Different Cultures" program in alliance with Multicultural Inter-Agency Group of Peel-MIAG. This program where art and health was articulated as a path of healing, was developed in its entirety in 2008 with a group of older adults from the Latin American community. Their results were presented at the Conference on New Dimensions for Older Adults of Different Cultures on January 17, 2009.

In the fifth year, it was a year of concretions in which we defined who we are and which objectives we want to achieve. "We are a group of Latin American women and men from other countries that seek physical, mental, emotional, social, economic and spiritual development through the integration of art, culture, education and health. We believe that from a holistic perspective, the path of healing articulates all aspects of women and men as human beings. "

In that year we established an alliance with Square One Older Adult Center, and constituted the "For a Full Life" program in which women and men over 50 participate, who represent the voice of older adults of our Latin American countries in Misissauga, Canada . The program is developed in Spanish and includes art, health promotion, exercise through biodanza, self-care and alternative methods that help our healing. In such a way that in the process we achieve greater well-being and fulfillment in daily life.

The last two years we have developed meetings of integration and support to community programs being "Primavera con sabor Latino" the first celebration in favor of the program Por una Vida plena, and this year, we are part of the organizing group of the Teletón Contigo Colombia in favor of those affected by the floods of the winter wave; we collaborate on July 20 at the Festival of Flowers of Colombia in Mississauga, in the pavilion of flowers; with Mimos Art Kids we participated in the planning and development of the Encounter of Generations through art, and with great success we celebrated the "Dance Dinner" on September 24, 2011 to support the Pro-Huertas Project of the Foundation for a Better World of Popayán -Colombia ; In October of this year, the Ser Padres program was initiated, whose objective is to develop an interactive, playful and experiential training process for parents of the Hispanic community.

Also in the last two years we have counted on the advice of the Social Planning Council to manage the incorporation of ALCE Art and Health as a non-governmental organization and as a result of this process on September 13, 2011, the Ministry of Government of Services of Ontario registered as a Corporate entity with the number 1836111, which has been a source of joy for everyone and is a new stage that we started as an organization.

Like El Alce, our totemic animal that accompanies us, we progress and regulate the rhythm to maintain a balance of energy and reach the goals, objectives and activities planned as a group, and today as an organization, in the path we have chosen to unite art and health.
